Sidney Poitier was born in Miami, Florida on February 20, 1927. Sidney Poitier, a poor child, had only 18 months of formal education. Sidney Poitier is an actor and film director who also served as the Bahamian Ambassador to Japan from 1997 to 2007. Poitier received credit alongside Tony Curtis for the critically acclaimed film The Defiant Ones. The two also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

He became a top box-office star in 1967 and made a name for himself with credit to his work in the films To Sir, with Love, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and In the Heat of the Night.Currently, Sidney Poitier and his wife, Joanna Shimkus, reside in California.
