Grace Jones
Jamaican model Grace Jones is widely recognized for her eccentric fashion sense and her progressive musical contributions. She served as a major influence on the cross-dressing culture of the 1980s and has inspired succeeding artists, including Lady Gaga and Annie Lenox. After becoming a dominant figure of New York’s disco scene in the 1970s, she continued to flourish with her music career that drew from multiple genres, such as R&B, reggae, and art-pop.
Jones also appeared in a number of low-budget films during the 1970s and early 1980s, including Conan the Destroyer alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. For her work in the said film, she was nominated for Saturn Awards. Today, she’s now 73 years old, but she hasn’t retired from Hollywood yet. In fact, she continues to make investments in the movie industry and recently appeared in the 2016 film Gutterdämmerung.
